2. Data Collected
2.1 Your Documents
LynxOffice opens, edits, and saves documents on your Mac. KDAN does not receive your documents, their contents, their file names, or where they are stored.
The AI features built into LynxOffice run on your Mac. On macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence turned on, LynxOffice uses the language model built into macOS, and text recognition (OCR) uses Apple’s on-device text recognition. LynxOffice does not send your documents to KDAN or to a cloud AI service.
The LynxOffice command line tool and MCP server also run on your Mac, and send nothing to KDAN.
2.2 Diagnostics and Usage Information
Unless you turn it off, LynxOffice sends two kinds of diagnostics to KDAN through Google’s Firebase services:
- Crash reports, through Firebase Crashlytics: technical details of what the app was doing when it stopped unexpectedly, such as the stack trace, with the app version, the macOS version, and the Mac model.
- Usage events, through Google Analytics for Firebase: which features are used, such as opening, saving, exporting, or printing a document, and the format of the document involved (for example “docx”). Google Analytics also records when LynxOffice is first opened and when a session starts.
With them, Firebase records a random identifier created for your installation of LynxOffice, and an approximate location (such as your country) that Google derives from your IP address.
Diagnostics never include your documents, their contents, file names, file paths, or anything you type. LynxOffice does not collect an advertising identifier.
You can turn diagnostics off at any time: choose LynxOffice > Settings, click General, and turn off “Share anonymous diagnostics”. Usage events stop at once, and crash reports stop from the next time LynxOffice starts. LynxOffice works the same with diagnostics turned off.
2.3 Information You Give Us
(1) When you contact us: if you contact KDAN support, for example through https://support.kdan.com, we receive what you choose to send, such as your name, your email address, your message, and any files you attach. Please do not attach documents that contain sensitive information, such as medical records or personal health information, unless it is necessary to resolve your request.
(2) When you get LynxOffice from the Mac App Store: Apple processes the transaction, including any payment, and KDAN does not receive your payment details. How Apple handles that information is described in the Apple Privacy Policy.
2.4 AI Assistants You Connect
LynxOffice passes a document to an AI assistant only when you ask it to:
- Hand off copies a prompt to your clipboard for the assistant you pick, such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Codex, and can open that assistant for you. For assistants that cannot read the file themselves, the prompt contains the document’s text.
- If you connect an assistant to the LynxOffice MCP server or command line tool, the assistant can read the documents you point it to.
What the assistant does with that content, including whether it sends it to its provider’s servers, is governed by that provider’s terms and privacy policy, not by this Privacy Policy. KDAN does not receive that content.
2.5 This Website
This website uses Google Analytics, provided by Google, to count visits and to see which pages, buttons, and links are used, such as the download and contact buttons. Google Analytics records the pages you view and the buttons and links you click on this website, with your browser and device type and an approximate location (such as your country) that Google derives from your IP address.
The first time you visit, this website asks whether it may use Google Analytics cookies. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, Google Analytics stores no cookie unless you accept. Elsewhere, it stores one unless you reject, and rejecting deletes the Google Analytics cookies already set. Your answer is kept in your browser’s storage so that you are not asked again, and you can change it at any time with Cookie Settings at the bottom of every page. Whenever Google Analytics may not store cookies, it measures visits without them.
When it may, Google Analytics stores a random identifier in a cookie in your browser, so that a later visit is counted as the same visitor. The cookie expires two years after your last visit, unless you delete it sooner. This website sets no advertising cookies, and its analytics are not used for advertising.
You can also block cookies in your browser’s settings, or stop Google Analytics on every website with Google’s Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Like any website, this website is delivered by a hosting provider, which processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the pages and keep the service secure.
The API reference remembers display settings, such as its appearance, in your browser’s storage. They stay in your browser and are not sent to us.
2.6 Data from Third-party Sources
Apple provides KDAN with reports about LynxOffice on the Mac App Store, such as numbers of downloads and sales by country, and crash reports and usage statistics from people who have chosen to share analytics with app developers in their Mac’s settings. These reports do not identify you to KDAN.
3. Purpose and Use of Data
(1) Support: to answer your questions and resolve the problems you report. We process such data to respond to your request.
(2) Stability and security: to find and fix crashes and other problems in LynxOffice. This is our legitimate interest in providing reliable and secure software, and your legitimate interest in receiving it.
(3) Improving LynxOffice: to understand, in aggregate, which features and document formats are used, how people come to use LynxOffice and keep using it, and where they run into trouble, so that we can decide what to improve. This is our legitimate interest in improving our products. You can turn it off as described in section 2.2.
(4) Legal obligations: to comply with the law, and to respond to lawful requests from authorities as described in section 7.
4. User Rights
(1) Through the “Contact us” page on our websites (https://support.kdan.com), you may make an inquiry of, review, request a copy of, supplement or correct, demand the cessation of the collection, processing or use of, restrict the use of, and request the deletion of your Personal Data. Where you have the right to data portability under Article 20 of the EU and UK GDPR, you may request that we send the information you have provided to us in a format that can be read by a computer, to another organization designated by you.
(2) Diagnostics are linked to a random identifier for your installation of LynxOffice, not to your name or email address, so we may need your help to find the data a request concerns. You can stop diagnostics yourself at any time, as described in section 2.2.
5. Safety Measures
(1) We will adopt appropriate protection, storage, and process mechanisms and safety measures to prevent your Personal Data from being stolen, altered, damaged, lost, or leaked.
(2) We endeavor to maintain a secure environment by implementing security measures and vulnerability management practices consistent with industry best practices.
(3) To find out more about the safety measures we adopt, kindly refer to our Security Policy (https://lynxoffice.com/security/).
6. Retention Period
(1) Crash reports: Firebase Crashlytics keeps crash reports, and the identifiers attached to them, for 90 days, and then deletes them.
(2) Usage events: Google Analytics keeps event-level data, from LynxOffice and from this website, for the retention period KDAN sets, which Google Analytics limits to at most 14 months. Reports built from it contain only aggregated figures.
(3) Support requests: we keep your correspondence for as long as we need it to handle your request, and afterwards only as long as the law or our legitimate business needs require.
(4) To comply with laws and course of business (including but not limited to regulations and accounting procedures), or to provide Services, we will retain your Personal Data to the extent necessary.
7. Information Sharing and Disclosure
7.1 Unless one of the following conditions is met, we will not disclose or share your personal data with any third party:
(1) We have obtained your prior consent
Within the scope of your consent, we may share your personal data with third parties.
(2) Cooperation with Judicial or Government Authorities for Investigations and Notification Mechanisms
When a judicial authority or a legally authorized investigative agency requests access to, inquires about, or demands the provision of your personal data through formal documentation, or when a government agency requests access to or inquiries about your personal data pursuant to legal provisions or its official duties, we will verify the legality of such requests first.
Once we confirm the legitimacy of the request, we may provide your personal data to the requesting authority in order to comply with legal requirements and cooperate with the lawful requests of judicial authorities, legally authorized investigative agencies, or government agencies.
If the law or a court order does not prohibit or restrict us from disclosing such requests, we will, after evaluation, notify you at an appropriate time and in the most suitable manner, providing an overview of the request, the scope of the requested information, and the personal data that may be disclosed.
If the law or a court order prohibits, restricts or exempts us from disclosing such information, we may not be able to inform you of any details.
(3) Cooperation for Business or Operational Needs
We use service providers to run LynxOffice and this website: Google, whose Firebase services process the diagnostics described in section 2.2, the hosting provider of this website, and the provider of our support platform. We may also share data with KDAN’s affiliates to answer your requests. We will make every effort to ensure that these third parties comply with our instructions, adhere to this Privacy Policy, and implement appropriate confidentiality and security measures within the authorized scope.
(4) De-identified Data
We may share aggregated or de-identified data with third parties, as such data cannot reasonably be used to identify an individual.
We may disclose, share, trade, and/or rent generalized and aggregated statistical information to third parties. These statistical data, which have been aggregated or de-identified, do not constitute personal data and may include, but are not limited to, application names, installation/uninstallation timestamps, and location data (such as country), which cannot reasonably be used to identify an individual.
(5) Compliance with Terms of Service
To enforce applicable terms of service(https://lynxoffice.com/terms-of-service/), including investigating potential misuse by Users and addressing security or technical issues, we may share personal data with third parties.
(6) Transfer and Notification Mechanism
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, we will continue to take measures to protect the confidentiality of personal data and notify affected Users before transferring any personal data to a new entity.
7.2 KDAN strives to follow the principles of minimal collection and necessary disclosure to avoid using your data beyond the scope of your consent or legal requirements.
8. Third-party Websites or Services
(1) Our websites, applications, and Services may link to, or pass documents to, services run by third parties, such as an AI assistant you choose. These third-party services are not run by KDAN, and this Privacy Policy does not apply to them. KDAN takes no legal responsibility regarding how these third parties collect, process, and use Users’ Personal Data. It is the User’s own responsibility to review the terms of service or privacy policy of these third parties before using them.
(2) LynxOffice uses the following third-party services:
- Firebase Crashlytics and Google Analytics for Firebase, provided by Google, for the diagnostics described in section 2.2 (Privacy and Security in Firebase, Google Privacy Policy).
- The Mac App Store, operated by Apple, which distributes LynxOffice (Apple Privacy Policy).
- Google Analytics, provided by Google, for this website’s visit statistics described in section 2.5 (How Google uses information from sites that use its services, Google Privacy Policy).
This website sets no advertising cookies. The only cookies it sets are Google Analytics’ own, as described in section 2.5.
(3) LynxOffice makes no automated decisions about you that produce legal effects or similarly significant effects.
9. Data Transfers
Your Personal Data may be processed on servers located outside of the country where you live. Regardless of where your Personal Data is processed, we apply the same protections described in this Privacy Policy. We also comply with legal requirements relating to cross-border transfers of Personal Data.
If your Personal Data is transferred to a third country or organisation, we will ensure there is either an adequacy decision in place, or in the absence of an adequacy decision we will implement appropriate standard contractual clauses to ensure the security of your data.
10. Changes to Privacy Policy
(1) Due to rapid technological development, KDAN may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in legal, technical, or business developments in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. You agree that it is your responsibility to review this Privacy Policy periodically, and your continued use of the Services signifies your agreement to accept the updated Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of the updated Privacy Policy, please discontinue your use of the Services.
(2) Whenever we update this Privacy Policy, we will publish the updated Privacy Policy on KDAN’s websites, and will notify you soon through the applications or emails.
11. Right to lodge a complaint
You have the right to lodge a complaint with the appropriate supervisory authority in your region. If you do have any concerns about how we have handled your data we would kindly ask that you contact us in the first instance, before you speak to the supervisory authority, so that we have an opportunity to put things right.
